What is excessive menstrual bleeding? How heavy is too heavy? |
|
More than 120,000 American women each year undergo hysterectomy. If your period lasts for more than seven days, or if you use more than 10 pads or tampons per day, your bleeding is excessive. There is a clinical term for this—it’s called menorrhagia (pronounced “men-or-ah-zha”). If you suffer from symptoms of menorrhagia, you probably experience one or more of the following symptoms: · Unmanageable bleeding, clotting, and an almost constant need to change pads or tampons. · Fatigue—menorrhagia is a common cause of iron-deficiency anemia. · Anxiety about embarrassing accidents. If you are still unsure about whether this describes you, take the Menorrhagia Self Quiz. |
